Compared with copper conductor, aluminum conductor has its unique advantages, the most obvious of which is the low cost. The density of copper is 8.9g/cm3 and that of aluminum is 2.7g/cm3. When the conductor specifications are the same, the weight of copper conductor is 3.3 times that of aluminum conductor. However, the conductivity of aluminum is only about 60% of that of copper. Under the condition of transmitting the same current, the cross-sectional area of aluminum conductor is relatively large. Based on the above factors, if the two conductors have the same current carrying capacity, the quality of copper conductor is about twice that of aluminum conductor. In addition to the difference in copper and aluminum prices, the final equivalent cost of copper conductor is about 7 times that of aluminum conductor. It is worth noting that due to the relatively large cross-sectional area of aluminum conductor under the same conditions, the demand for insulation, protection and other materials of aluminum core cable increases, which reduces the price advantage of all aluminum conductor accordingly.

At present, the price of AAAC cable commonly used in the market is only about 75% of that of copper core cable. In addition, from the perspective of installation cost, due to the relatively light aluminum conductor, there is no need for bridge and pipe in the installation process, which can save a lot of installation materials, and save 20% - 50% of the installation cost compared with copper conductor.
