Characteristics and applicable environment of OPGW optical cable

OPGW cable is mainly used on 500kV, 220kV and 110kV voltage grade lines. The OPGW optical cable is characterized by integrating the overhead ground wire and communication optical cable on the high-voltage transmission line into one cable, combining the transmission line technology with the optical cable technology to become a multi-functional overhead ground wire. It is not only an overhead optical cable, but also a lightning conductor and a shielding line. It also completes the construction of the high-voltage transmission line while completing the construction of the communication line, It is very suitable for new transmission lines. There are three main types of common OPGW structures, namely steel pipe type, aluminum pipe type and aluminum skeleton type.

The characteristics and applicable environment of OPGW optical cable are:

1. The OPGW optical cable is metal armored, which has no effect on the corrosion and degradation of high-voltage electric traces;

2. OPGW optical cable must not work live during construction, and the power failure loss is large, so OPGW optical cable should be used in new high-voltage lines above 110kV generally;

3. for lines with high voltage exceeding 110KV, the span is large (generally above 250m);

4. it is easy to maintain and solve the problem of line crossing, and its mechanical characteristics can meet the requirements of large line crossing.
