What is the role of ACSR?
ACSR – Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced is used as bare overhead transmission cable and as primary and secondary distribution cable. ACSR offers optimal strength for line design. Variable steel core stranding for desired strength to be achieved without sacrificing ampacity.
Its interior is a steel core, and the outside is wrapped around the steel core by means of twisting aluminum wires. The steel core mainly plays the role of increasing the strength, and the aluminum stranded wire mainly plays the role of transmitting electric energy.
The ACSR conductor has a very simple structure, very convenient erection and maintenance, low cost of line construction, large transmission capacity, and is also conducive to laying across special geographical conditions such as rivers and valleys, and has good electrical conductivity. It has the characteristics of high mechanical strength, high tensile strength, and the distance of the tower can be enlarged. Therefore, it is widely used in overhead transmission and distribution lines of various voltage levels.
