What is bare conductor?
Bare conductor is a conductor that is not covered with an insulating layer. Conductors are generally made of copper, aluminum, aluminum alloy, steel and other materials. Bare wires are generally used for the erection of high-voltage lines in the field because they have no skin, which is conducive to heat dissipation. In order to increase the tensile strength, steel strand is placed in the center of some aluminum strands, which is called "steel cored aluminum wire". Bare conductors without insulating sheath have also caused many accidents in densely populated areas. In cities where conditions permit, insulated wires have been gradually used for overhead high-voltage lines or transferred to underground cables.
Type of bare conductor
a. Single round wire: including round copper wire, round aluminum wire, tinned round copper wire, aluminum alloy round wire, aluminum clad steel round wire, copper clad steel round wire, Silver Plated Round wire, etc.
b. Bare stranded wire: including aluminum stranded wire, steel cored aluminum stranded wire, light steel cored aluminum stranded wire, reinforced steel cored aluminum stranded wire, corrosion-resistant steel cored aluminum stranded wire, expanded steel cored aluminum stranded wire, aluminum alloy wire, hard copper stranded wire, etc.
c. Flexible wiring: including copper brush wire, copper antenna, copper flexible stranded wire, copper extra flexible stranded wire, copper braided wire, etc.
d. Type line: including flat copper wire, copper bus, copper strip, flat aluminum wire, aluminum bus, tubular bus, special-shaped copper bar and tram line.
In overhead distribution lines, copper stranded wires are generally used in areas with high current density or serious chemical corrosion because of their excellent conductor performance, high mechanical strength and strong corrosion resistance; The electrical conductivity and mechanical strength of aluminum stranded wire are lower than that of copper conductor, which is generally used in overhead lines with small span; ACSR has high mechanical strength and good conductivity. It is suitable for laying long span overhead lines.
